Brassy Brunette’s Here is your Solution

There is so much chatter about brassy blondes, and how to remove the gold undertones from previously hi lighted hair.  But what about the beautiful brunette that suddenly turned brassy?  Well, there is a solution for you too!

Lets understand the factors first.  Many things can effect the appearance of unwanted brassy tones in hair.  Understanding what causes your specific condition and eliminating that will help you out in the long run.

Most brunettes experience brassiness when they have previously colored /hilighted hair and the warm undertones of the hair color tends to emerge, thus reveling the level of the undertone that was in the hair color.  This can be fixed by  a visit to your salon for a “refresh” of  your color with a gloss to add shine and neutralize the unwanted tones.

Using heat tools and harsh styling can also revel a brassy effect to the hair.  Heat can be very damaging, and should always be used in conjunction with a heat protection.  When you add heat you are essentially “burning” the hair strand.  The scientific process that happens literally softens the cuticle breaking down the hydrogen bonds and stripping away the natural oils and proteins. Once heated the hair is able to take the mold of the flat iron/curling iron that is used.  Consider easing up of the styling and let your hair air dry.

How does well water affect your hair? Some may experience brassiness from hard water/well water.  Damage to your hair caused by rust or minerals lurking in your tap, can often have a build-up minerals like magnesium rust and calcium and chlorine.  All of these strip the hair of nutrients causing dry brittle hair.  Consider using a filter on your shower head that blocks out all of these and purifies the water before it reaches your skin. We use Vibency 15 stages Premium Water Filter .

If you have not colored your hair and you never use styling products, but you would prefer to cool your natural hair color down, consider using a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically for brunette’s.  Some shampoos can incorporate a slight pigment into the hair strand revealing a cooler shade of brown.
